L'Oréal Kid's, a leading brand in children's hair care, sought to expand market share and increase sales volume through diversification into the children's bath and skin care markets. With a variety of new product formulations nearing completion, development of a wide range of appealing aquatic themed characters was the primary focus. As part of the new products strategic planning process L'Oréal Kid's brand management partnered with the Johnson Communications Group to formulate the criteria for an in-depth character development and structural packaging design exploratory.
Johnson Communications developed a wide selection of delightful, water dwelling characters. The preferred character studies were brought to life utilizing a combination of simple structural designs for the body and engaging graphic illustrations for defining details such as facial features. All packaging design and character concepts were developed in keeping with the creative philosophy of the existing L'Oréal Kid's branding program. The new product launch of L'Oréal Kid's Moisturizing Hand Wash utilized the first character study, a charming walrus sure to capture the consumer's imagination.
